Speakers revealed for each TEDxDouglas session

With tickets on sale for TEDxDouglas, the Isle of Man’s first ever TEDx event, we can now reveal which speakers & performers will be appearing in each of the three sessions.

The big day is MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10 at the Youth Arts Centre, Douglas and tickets are available from the Villa Gaiety box office HERE.

The speakers/performers for each session are:

2.00pm-3.30pm:
ADRIAN CAIN, Manx Language Development Officer – From Tony Blair to a dead language: What’s the point of the Isle of Man?
MICHAEL DANIELS, magician – The magic, myth and math of magic squares.
MIKE KEWLEY, teacher of Mindfulness – How to be ordinary: A short guide to happiness.
DAVY KNOWLES, singer & musician – talking on the influence and impact of folk music, and why it’s as important today as it ever was.

4.00pm-5.30pm:
TIM CULLEN, creator of the Small Countries Financial Management Programme – Punching above their weight: Challenges and opportunities for small countries.
RALPH PEAKE, MD of Luminaires lighting design company – Out of the dark and into the light: Bringing society out of the shadows.
VALERIE MILLER, co-founder of Mother T’s community centre – It’s Time to Change: How Timebanking can help rebuild community spirit.
Performer – performance poet GEORGIA ZAPPAROLI, twice winner of the Manx Litfest Poetry Slam.

6.00pm-8.30pm:
DANIEL HARDMAN, amateur comedian and student of neuroscience – The funny side of fear: Conquering anxiety through stand up comedy.
MIA HANSSON, counsellor and writer about ‘spiritual life in the real world’ – What is love? A journey through the heart.
PHIL KELLY & PHIL QUIRK, co-owners of Human Behavioural Performance – Deciding to fail (a look at the importance of ‘gut reaction’ for those competing in dangerous sports and the role it plays in the TT races).
MALCOLM BLACKBURN, vice-president of the Confederation of Independent Football Associations and CEO of Manx International Football Alliance – Thinking outside the box, moving the goalposts and raising the crossbar.
COL. RON GARAN, retired NASA astronaut, aquanaut and social entrepreneur – The Orbital Perspective
Performer – DAVY KNOWLES, playing music from his new documentary, Island Bound.

There will also be some excellent existing TED talks screened at regular intervals.

Tickets are priced at £30 for one session, £40 for two sessions, and £50 if attending all three sessions. Please help spread the word and share the news about TEDxDouglas.
