Our Venue – the Youth Arts Centre

The venue for our first event in November is the Youth Arts Centre in Kensington Road, Douglas. We chose this venue for two main reasons. First, it has everything we need, in terms of size, seating, technology. The second reason is that, in a previous life, it was the Douglas School of Art, which counted amongst its alumni a certain Archibald Knox.

Knox enrolled at the newly-opened school in 1880, aged 16, and four years later was appointed pupil teacher. His time at the school inspired him to become one of the foremost artists and designers of his time, and we feel the history of the building makes it a fitting venue to stage the Island’s first ever TEDx event.
